not create man so that he could suffer, that was not His intention, and to prove this He gave him a freewill. Neverthe-less, the wrong decision to disobey God took him to the valley of tears that (is seen today). There are thousands that suffer! It is on account of sin that man is still in the world. But...how can man return to the road that leads to Ufe? To return from whence he fell is impossible since we are guilty of death and slaves of sin. Therefore...
Is there a wayof escape?
God does not want us to suffer in sin, He would rather save us. "Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live." Eze. 33:11.
God wants to make you happy, for-give you and accept you as his child, and to give you His salvation. The only question to ask then is: Will you permit him to do this?"
Only one door exists to escape the way of perdition.
Then Jesus said unto them again, "I am the door, by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved and shall go in and out, and fi nd pasture." John 10:9.
There is a door that leads to salvation, it is Christ our Saviour, and a mount ex¬ists where our redemption was obtained, and that is Calvary. That is why He now calls us with tender love saying: "Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest....and ye shall find rest unto your souls." Matt. 11:28-29.
But what can bridge the abyss that ex¬ists between the road to death and the road to life?
There are some who believe that by simply practicing religion they will be automatically saved. They desire to make bridges that are not capable of crossing the abyss between God and humanity. On the other hand, there are others that believe they will be saved by practicing or believing in a certain phi-losophy, yet this false bridge on which they stand is not capable to either cross the abyss of sin or to reconcile them with the Creator, as it is not a means of salva¬tion. The majority believe that the bridge to eternal life, is good works. By study- |

ing the sacred word, we can see that hu¬man works cannot save the sinner. Nor can self-righteousness: the perfection or obedience we achieve on our own. Yes, not one of these things are bridges that can help us cross the abyss between God and man, so the question remains: what then is the bridge of salvation? "This was the stone that was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we mustbe saved." Acts 4:11-12.
Jesus also said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man commeth
But what can bridge the abyss that exists between the road to death and the road to life?
unto the father but my me." John 14:6 (Proverbs 12:28).
A story is told about a building that was on fi re. From a window up on high, three people were crying for help. The fi remen came and set up their ladder, but it wasn't long enough to reach the people since three more metres were necessary to reach the window. So the fi reman that was on the end of the ladder, in an act of heroism, climbed the last step and made a bridge with his own body, giving the command that they should climb over him. The fi rst person did so, the second one did the same, and finally the third one was also able to get across, unfortu-nately the fireman was not able to hold on any longer and he fell into the abyss. Safe and sound in the ground were the three people he had rescued. They cried a lot and although they did not know him, they loved him, because he had
|
given his life for them, so the tears they shed were tears of love...
This anecdote should remind us of another man named Jesus who did the same with His body, creating a bridge between life and death for those on earth. A token of unfathomable love! By the grace of Jesus we are reconciled with God, saved in Him.
Encouraging Promises
He, who has the Son, has life.
"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his son. He that hath the Son hath life: and he that hath not the Son of Goth hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5: 11-13.
You can grab hold of the promise of eternal life. To live with hope and surety, is to live happily.
He does not reject anybody. "...And him that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37.
God desires to justify us freely, that is to say, to pronounce us forgiven and rec¬onciled by His grace through Christ.
"Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Rom. 3:24.
"I, even, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins." Isaiah 43: 25.
What can I do?
...to be called the son of God and receive salvation? "But as many as re-ceived him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe onHis name." John 1:12.
We are to accept Him as the Saviour and Lord of our life. Then will we be able to rejoice.

The wise Solomon's description of the virtuous woman re¬veals the depth and breadth of possibilities open not only to women in Jewish society at that time but in every society down to our own day. It depicts a woman who is very active in her family and society. She dedicates her efforts and abilities to tenefiting those within her circle of influence. One can say that

cares for the poor, and is ready to give counsel and comfort. Where does she fi nd the strength and
energy for all of this? There is a spiritual
underpinning to her every activity. She
has a clear sense of her purpose in life
and humbly goes about her mission. Is
she demanding of her husband, children,
and servants? No. She has a partnership
with them. How does she achieve this?
She loves them, and they love her,
because she fears the Lord in the Biblical sense: “The fear of the Lord
is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” Proverbs 8:13. |
The fear of the Lord includes a clear understanding of God and who He is. And the person who fears Him loves and appreciates
His holy, loving character, which is so “merciful and gracious, long- longsuffering,
and abundant in good- suffering, goodness
and truth.” Exodus 34:6. This ness woman is in constant touch with
God and depends on Him to be with her in every task and in every
role, no matter how small and no matter how big.
Are you tempted to think that God doesn’t care about small,
everyday things...?
Perhaps you know a woman who is

and is rarely at peace in her soul. She may even complain of accomplishing
little, and that little is tainted with self.

Words from the Cross
- 1st. part -
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” Luke 23:34.
Pontio Pilato had washed his hands
off thinking that in this way he was
free of guilt, and Jesus was handed “to the will” of the multitude (23:25) and led to Calvary to be crucified between two criminals. He had heard how Barrabas
had been chosen to be set free and He
The King of kings was nailed to a cross for the sins of the whole world
was condemned to death on the cross by
an excited mob that shouted: “Crucify
Him, crucify Him.” (Luke 23:21)
The King of kings was nailed to a
cross for the sins of the whole world and
while all sorts of people surrounded the cross to mock Him and the soldiers at its feet were casting lots over His garments,
He uttered these words full
of compassion: “Father, forgive
them, for they do not
know what they do.”
Jesus spoke seven times as He hang on the cross, three times He showed His concern and interest in others, once he dared ask something
for Himself, He made
two appeals to His Father and finally He announced
the end of His mission on
the earth: to give His life for the sinner, to pay the enormous
debt man has with His Creator.
Were the first words immediately
after He willinging
lay on the cross. Did
those “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Men know what they did? Did they have an |
idea whom they were crucifying? Did
they have the slightest idea that what
they were doing to Jesus, for the sake
of righteousness, if the infi nite mercy of
God had not interceded, should have
happened to them? Did they understand
that the cross was the ladder that joined
the earth with heaven and that through
it one could ascend to the Father? Did
they have the slightest idea that before
their own eyes prophecies fortold centuries
before were being fulfi lled? Did they
realize that at that moment heaven was
opening up to hold all of humanity?
If they had known what they were

|
doing they would have done it with
much solemnity, with tears on theier
eyes, with a contrite heart, with horror
of their sins that required the death of
their Creator, of God Himself; but they
did not know what they were doing and
that is why they laughed, mocked, insulted
Him.
Do we know what we do every time
we sin? Are we aware that we crucify
Jesus anew? Do we follow our own emotions,
our thoughts, our feelings, do we
walk on our own ways with a joyful
heart? Are we, maybe, from those about
whom the Lord has to say over and over
again: “Father, forgive them, they do not
know what they do”? or does our heart
bleed everytime we transgress, we give
in to our weaknesses, because we see
Him with his body bruised due to the
evil treatment he received
from those cruel men, we
see the thorns on his forehead
and the blood mixed
with tears rolling down His
cheeks, His swollen lips,
his naked back stuck to the rough wood, and we know, deep in our heart, that neither the Jews, nor the Roman soldiers crucified Him, but we, you and I, our sins, our vanity, our selfishness,
our pride took to the cross the humble and generous
Son of God whose love is
unlimited? May the Lord make us aware of our acts and may He make us hate sin with all our heart so that the precious
blood of Jesus may have effect upon us. Amen.

“Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,…” Ecclesiastes 12:1.
In the beginning, man enjoyed the
privilege of direct communion with
his Creator. However, because of sin,
this face-to-face communion was no
longer possible. Since the fall and until
paradise will be restored on the new
earth, the communion between God and
our soul can take place only in indirect
ways.[Originally, I wrote: “in indirect
ways, primarily through our mind.” But
then I took it out because I wasn’t sure
if perhaps it would remind too much
about spiritualism where you communicate
with spirits through your mind.
In the second paragraph it still says “the
faculties …”, which was originally referring
to the phrase “through our mind”
in the fi rst paragraph. Do you think it is
OK not to have that reference? If so, we
can leave it as it is now, without the extra
phrase “primarily through our mind.”
Or perhaps there is some other way of
saying what needs to be said.]
The enemy of our souls has made
it his studied effort to disturb and, if |
possible, destroy man’s
communion with God.
One way he does this
is by trying to attack–

subtle ways–the faculties
through which commu- communion

T h e y o u n g p e o p l e
are the special objects
of his attacks, because
he knows that if he can
make them his captives,
it is much less likely that
they will ever seek God
or be able to escape his
snares. “Train up a child
in the way he should go:
and when he is old, he
will not depart from
it.” Proverbs 22:6. This
principle applies to both
good and evil.
God also seeks to win the attention
of the human being when he is young.

One advantage the enemy has with
young people is their relative ignorance
and inexperience, especially when combined
with self-confidence and self-sufficiency.
Therefore, let us heed the following
words: “Trust in the Lord with
all thine heart; and lean not unto thine
own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge
Him, and He shall direct thy
paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes:
fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”

is left unrevealed which is essential to a complete system of faith and a correct line of practice. Every duty that God
requires at our hands is made plain.… None will err from the right path who
meekly and honestly take the Bible as their guide, making it the man of their
counsel.” –Ellen G. White, Our High Calling, p. 36.
Let us look at some principles that are essential for our spiritual well being and for maintaining our communion with God.
Protect your mind
“Those who would not fall a prey to Satan’s devices must guard well the
avenues of the soul; they must avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts. The mind
should not be left to wander at random
upon every subject that the adversary of souls may suggest.” –Ellen G. White, Messages to Young People, p. 285. The
Bible expresses it this way: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23.
We need to be aware of the far-reaching
influence of what our minds take
in and dwell on. Our choice in these matters will be revealed in all areas of
life–including our thoughts, words, and actions, our outward appearance,
our choice of companions, our attitude toward sin and temptation, and our attitude toward God and His word. In Philippians 4:8 we are encouraged
to let our minds dwell on that which is good, ennobling, and uplifting. “Fi- |
nally, brethren,
nally, w h a t s o e v e r
things are true,
w h a t s o e v e r
things are hon- hone

just, whatso- whatsoever
things are
ever pure, whatso- whatsoever
things are
ever lovely, what- whatsoever
things soever a r e o f g o o d report; if there
be any virtue,
and if there be
any praise, think on these things.” This
will be a protection against destructive
influences, and it will have its effect in
our lives.
“The mind must be stored with pure
principles. Truth must be graven on the
tablets of the soul. The memory must
be filled with the precious truths of the
Word. Then, like beautiful gems, these
truths will flash out in the life.” –Messages
to Young People, sages p. 69. Be careful with your body The mind is also affected indi- indirectly
by our physical life style.
rectly God wants to protect us in this
area, so that our life forces
are not depleted unneces- unnecessarily.
“Anything that
sarily. lessens physical strength
enfeebles the mind, and
makes it less capable
of discriminating
between right and
wrong.” –Messages
to Young People, p.
235. Therefore, He
has given us the
principle of temper- temperance–
or balanced
ance–habits–not just in
eating and drinking,
but in all things.
T h e e f f e c t s o f
transgressing the
laws of nature over
longer periods of
time may not be
felt immediately.
“Because sentence |
against an evil work is not executed
speedily, therefore the heart of the sons
of men is fully set in them to do evil.”
Ecclesiastes 8:11. But it is good for us to
remember: “Be not deceived; God is not
mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth,
that shall he also reap.” Galatians 6:7.
The principle of sowing and reaping,
or cause and effect, applies equally to
good and evil. “Dear young friends, that
which you sow you will also reap. Now
is the sowing time for you. What will the
harvest be? What are you sowing? Every
word you utter, every act you perform,
is a seed which will bear good or evil
fruit, and will result in joy or sorrow to
the sower. As is the seed sown, so will be
the crop. God has given you great light
and many privileges. After this light
has been given, after your dangers have
been plainly presented before you, the

Seek God with all your heart
True, lasting communion with God rue, l is possible only when all areas of our life and all sides of our being are en-tirely and continually surrendered to Him. "And the very God of peace o Hi sanctify you wholly; and I pray God a your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the com-ing of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thes-salonians 5:23.
Our connection with God needs to become the most precious thing wl have in life, something that we do not ave in l want to lose at any cost, something that we seek to maintain every moment of our existence. What has been your experience with God so far? Have you heard Him speak to you? Have you listened for His voice? Did you follow?
God spoke to the child Samuel. "And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was pre-cious in those days; there was no open visión.... The Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. And he ran

unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down. And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again. Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him." 1 Samuel 3:1, 4-7. When Samuel fi nally un-derstood that it was the Lord who had called him, his answer was: "Speak; for Thy servant heareth." Verse 10.
If it is your desire to hear the Lord speak to you, let this be your constant prayer: "Show me Thy ways, O Lord; teach me Thy paths. Lead me in Thy truth, and teach me: for Thou art the God of my salvation; on Thee do I wait all the day." Psalm 25:4, 5. Open your heart to the impressions of His Spirit, search His word with a desire to learn, and treasure each gift you receive from Him.
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8:36, 37. Therefore, "Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth,..." Ecclesias-tes12:1.
