Under God's Protection

It was October 6, 1998. I was in an English library of the British Consulate, deep in a book. All at once the quiet of the library was abruptly shattered. "Bomb threat!" yelled a uniformed policeman from the building's entrance. "Leave the library on the spot!" At first I didn't have a clue what was really wrong; but when I noticed all the people rushing to the entrance, I was made aware of my serious situation.

I jumped up and tried to push my way to the door, where the crowd had slowed down. Panic and fear overwhelmed me. My heart pounded, and my whole body shook. I kept thinking that the bomb that had been planted could explode any second and kill me right then and there.

A few meters ahead of me I saw the entrance. "I have to reach it as quickly as possible. The bomb could go off any second.... Lord, protect me." In my panic, these were the only words I could send to heaven as a fast and earnest prayer. When I reached the threshold of the entrance, I ran in the direction pointed out by a policeman over the square to the main street--out of the danger zone.

When I was in a safe place, I turned around to look at the building. My whole body continued to shake; but despite the shock I felt, I realized that I could have lost my life in that library. Yes, I was at the brink of death. But God, in His unending love, put His hand over me and was my protection. He didn't permit my life to be taken in a bomb blast. He heard me when I cried to Him in my great need and surrounded me with His wall of protection.

"Lord, I thank You that I'm alive!"

"I will love Thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower." Psalm 18:1, 2.

I'm only a speck of dust in this world.
And yet, Lord, You have so marvelously placed me here.
You protect me from all evil and are my refuge from fear and my protection in danger.
If You bring me to the brink of death, I am still secure in Your protecting hand.
Thank you for giving me life and for guiding me in all my ways to this very moment.
