MISSIONARY
SCHOOL
FOR AFRICA

"And he went into the synagogue,
andspake boldlyfor the space
ofthree months, disputing and
persuading the things concerning the
kingdom ofGod.
But when divers were hardened,
and believed not, but spake evil of
thatway before the multitude, he
departedfrom them, andseparated
the disciples, disputing daily in the

school ofone Tyrannus. And this continued by the space oftwoyears; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word ofthe Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks. And Godwrought special miracles by the hands ofPaul... "

Acts 19:8-11

"Every human being, created in the image of God, is endowed with a power akin to that of the creator -individuality, power to think and to do. The men in whom this power is developed are men who bear responsibilities who are leaders in enterprises, and who infl uence character. It is the work of true education to develop this power to train the youth to be thinkers and not mere reflectors of other men's thought.

Instead of educated weaklings, institutions of learning may send forth men strong to think and to act, men who are masters and not slaves of circumstances, men who possess breadth of mind, clearness of thought, and the courage of their

convictions." -Education, pp. 17, 18.

The African continent has about 58 sovereign states. The equator line divides the continent right in the middle. On the North, the Moslems are dominating the territory by over 80%, while South of the equator, the Christian faith is dominant by nearly the same proportion. The Adventist message reached Africa at the very beginning of 20th Century; the Reform Movement message reached Africa as early as the 1920's, beginning on Southern Africa, then spreading Northward to Eastern Africa, and then to West Africa. Today, nearly all of the countries south of equator have been reached by the Reformati on message, while about 35 countries, mainly on the North of Equator, have not yet being reached.

We have 5 unions and 15 missionfi elds under the General Conference. Atthe presentmoment, doorsformissionary work in Africa are still open, and if we were well organized in recruiting and training young missionaries, who like matching armies, could reach out the new missionary fi elds, many souls could be won to the present truth. But our message is spreading at a very slow pace, and in some places we experience a serious setback, due to lack of qualifi ed or trained missionaries. In some countries, where the truth was received long

time ago, the work is either stagnant or dying for a lack of messengers or advocatesofourtruth. Unless a serious determined effort is undertaken to train young missionaries, who will bear the responsibility for leading the ministry in Africa in the near future, when the few self-trained standard bearers pass away, the standard will be lowered and eventually the identity ofthe church will go away. For this reason, there is a cry for a missionary school for preparing our youth for missionary activities, as well as leadership roles. Unions and fi elds in this region have committed to contribute the little they can, to make our dream of establishing a missionary school a reality. We would like al so to thank the General Conference for showing awareness and interest in supporting this effort. We also thank all individuals who have contributed through advisory as well as material help in the general planification.

In Nairobi, Kenya, at the Kenyan Union premises, we have secured permission from the leadership to use part of the building for missionary school classes and dormitories. Major renovations have to be done to make it usable. Also, we have to guarantee the care of the school instructors. Teaching materials, equipment, and facilities have to be

acquired and developed. Therefore, asubstantialamountof initial capital is required. Dear brothers and sisters around the world, and any who would be a willing donor, we implore you, to stretch your hand to bless and support our effort. Our gracious God, who knows the motives of our hearts, will bless you abundantly. In Matthew 6:20, 21 we read: "But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also."

"I have showedyou all things, how that so labouringye ought to

support the weak,

andto remember the

words ofthe Lord Jesus,

how he said,

It is more blessed to give

than to receive."

Acts 20:35

The resources you invest in this institution, which are intended for preparing missionaries to evangelize Africa, and other missions abroad, will bear a credit for you in heaven and one day you will meet a soul, which was won through your donation.

"Christ entreats 'lay up
for yourselves treasurers
in heaven' this work
of transferring your
possessions to the world
above, is worthy of all
your best energies. It is of
the highest importance,
and involves your eternal
interest. That which you
bestow in the cause of
God is not lost. All that
is given for the salvation
of souls and the glory of
God, is invested in the most
successful enterprise in this
life and in the life to come"

"The youth are to be

encouraged to attend our

schools, which should

become more and more

like the schools of the

prophets. Our schools

have been established

by the Lord; and if

they are conducted

in harmony with his

purpose, the youth sent

to them will quickly

be prepared to engage

in various branches

of missionary work.

Some will be trained

to enter the fi eld as

missionary nurses, some

as canvassers, some as

evangelists, some as

teachers, and some as

gospel ministers."
